The Science Of Psilocybin Mushrooms

by Chris Channing

Mushrooms are commonly eaten around the world, but one in particular has an odd effect on the human body. The psilocybin mushroom has been known throughout history as a mushroom that can have particularly beneficial medical side effects- but what’s the story behind the mushroom, and what can one expect from the beneficial properties that it exhibits?

One should never ingest a psilocybin mushroom if they do not have doctor supervision or if it banned in their home country. The psilocybin mushroom has been declared by the United Nations to be a possible threat long ago- but only recently have medical studies proven that they are indeed beneficial in some ways. Because of such studies, some countries allow for the mushroom and its properties to be used at will among its citizens.

It’s best to understand the effect on psilocybin before trying to understand how it can effect one in the medical sense. It has been proven that psilocybin mushrooms contain no toxic substance- meaning they are not harmful to the human body. It has also been proven that there is no possibility of physical dependency or addiction- although emotional dependency may result in some cases.

Countries that don’t support the mushroom’s use sometimes use it in medical cases nevertheless. Psilocybin mushrooms are very useful for curing clinical depression, headaches, over compulsive disorder, and many other mental problems that aren’t always so easy in aiding. Most of the countries that do not allow the mushroom have indeed been lenient towards medical usage.

The psilocybin mushroom is aptly named after the key ingredient that has its effect on the human body- psilocybin. This compound can effectively distort one’s perception and senses in several ways. It is usually found common in medical trials that 1-2 grams of psilocybin is sufficient to experience the common side effects. As studies have shown, this is largely due to the amount of psilocin that is created, not the psilocin.

As with many compounds that have potential to distort perception and the senses, psilocybin can lead to poor experiences and good experiences alike. This is largely dependent upon the environment in which the medical patient is ingesting the psilocybin in. If the environment is disturbing, eerie, or otherwise frightening- so then, too, will be their episode that results from the compound.

When it was stated that doctor supervision was necessary for medical usage of psilocybin, it was stated so with good cause. The body can build up a tolerance to the psilocybin, in which case the medical patient will need more to get the same results. This can continue until the user overdoses on psilocybin, which just goes to show that medical usage should always be monitored in all cases.

Psilocybin mushrooms are still rather mysterious in the world of science. In many studies that are currently ongoing, there are reports that the psilocybin mushroom is proving to have more and more use in the medical field. As some countries are starting to give way in allowing the psilocybin mushroom for medical use, patients around the world can enjoy the benefits of the psilocybin mushroom. As previously stated, one should never ingest the mushroom if one’s country doesn’t allow it- there is no need to break the law over something so menial.
