Getting a Mini Facelift

by Aazdak Alissimmo

Facelifts are some of the most incredibly popular plastic surgery procedures performed in the world today. Whether you are in New York or Los Angeles, Miami or London, everyone wants to look younger and feel their best. Facelifts are a great way to rejuvenate your appearance.

While a facelift is a good way to get rid of deep wrinkles and creases that have formed due to aging, sun and other environmental damage, it should never be the first choice for treating these conditions. Other treatments, such as laser resurfacing, and even simple creams and cosmetics should be used.

Other alternatives to facelifts include the ever popular Botox injections for wrinkles that are around the brow line, and dermal fillers such as Restylane for wrinkles found in the mouth area. These can help with minor wrinkles, and delay the need for a facelift for a few years.

Sometimes, however, other treatments don’t work and you just have to go for the big guns. In these cases, the surgical step known as a facelift may be your only option. For many years, patients had just one choice in facelifts - the full facelift, a lengthy procedure with a lengthy cut.

While this cut, usually made along the hairline to minimize scarring and noticeability, was difficult to endure, surgeons have now discovered different ways to make the cutting needed smaller and less invasive. These cuts are still required to get at the tissues underneath so skin can be pulled taut.

If your wrinkles are not covering your entire face, but are seen more in the lower half of your face, you may be a candidate for the mini facelift instead. This facelift is targeted towards those people who have sagging jowls and neck skin - and can lift these areas without extensive surgery.

This is a less complicated procedure, and therefore less risky. There will not be as much recovery time needed from the mini facelift, mostly because the surgeon may be able to perform the surgery without using any general anesthesia. This shortens recovery time, and will lessen danger.

Incisions for the mini facelift are different - they are smaller, and usually found only around the ear. The procedure is much the same, however, with tissues being pulled up and occasionally removed, then sutured to give a smoother and more tight appearance to the skin of the face.

In the same way that facelifts may not be the right procedures for every person, mini facelifts too have risks and consequences to be considered. However, if you need to rejuvenate the lower part of your face and nothing else has worked, it may be worth your time to consider getting a mini facelift.
